Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave: One Stop or Two Different Visits?
Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave are not one quick stop. The waterfall is beside the Ella–Wellawaya road; the cave is reached separately, with an uphill approach. Visit the falls for an easy roadside view, and add the cave only if you want a walk and have shoes with grip.
Ravana Falls
The waterfall lies on the road south of Ella, and its name is linked to the Ravana legend. Water volume changes with rain. The roadside setting makes it easy to reach but also busy, with traffic close by. Wet rock is slippery, so admire the cascade from a stable viewpoint instead of treating the pool as a guaranteed swimming place.
Ravana Cave
The cave is usually reached by a turn off the Wellawaya Road followed by an uphill trek. This is not an accessible extension of the waterfall stop. Allow time for the climb and return, carry water and do not rely on a map label alone to identify the entrance. Local access conditions and any fee should be confirmed on arrival.
Tour or tuk-tuk?
A tuk-tuk works well if you only want the falls and cave and agree the route and waiting time before departure. The guided Ravana and Upper Diyaluma waterfalls day trip starts at €36.57. It focuses on waterfalls; check the booking page rather than assuming the cave is included.
For a broader day, the Little Adam’s Peak, Nine Arch Bridge and waterfalls trip lasts 6–7 hours from €24.75. For most visitors short on time, this combination is more rewarding than making the cave the centre of the day.
